What is SPC flooring?

It can be both a confusing and exciting time when purchasing new flooring for your home or business. With so many types of vinyl flooring on offer – like spc and wpc – you will be wondering what do they mean? The team at HEPH are here to help you understand just what SPC flooring means.

SPC Vinyl Flooring

SPC vinyl flooring refers to stone plastic composite vinyl flooring. It is very similar to wood plastic composite (WPC) Flooring in that it is a high-quality luxury vinyl. By combining limestone and other stabilisers, an extremely rigid core can be made, which is scratch resistant, waterproof, durable, resistant to high traffic, and able to cope with general wear and tear. The process of creating the composite material also increases the planks general stability and its dent resistance, so it is widely used across commercial and residential settings.

Breakdown of SPC Vinyl Flooring Layers

There are four layers in spc vinyl flooring.

1.Wear Layer

The wear layer is the very top part of the vinyl flooring, it is a transparent coating that is added to improve scratch and stain resistance to the plank.

2.Vinyl Top Coat

Every plank of spc vinyl flooring has a ‘top coat’ that lies just underneath the wear layer. This top coat is waterproof but is also responsible for the ‘look’ or ‘style’ of your planks.

3.SPC Core

This part of the hybrid flooring contains a rigid core, and is made by combining limestone powder and other stabilisers. This core is extremely durable and solid, ensuring that the entire vinyl plank is structurally sound.

4.Attached Underlay

The last part of vinyl plank flooring is the attached underlay, which is not always included. However, if it is included its purpose is to improve acoustic dampening and add ‘softness’ to the floors.

Benefits of Hybrid Flooring

Naturally, spc vinyl is becoming increasingly popular across commercialand residential builds. At HEPH Build Materials, we strongly suggest you look at spc flooring for your next build due its many benefits.

Waterproof

SPC flooring is waterproof, so no matter where you install it you can rest assured that any liquid spills won’t damage your floor. You can install it in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, or any other room where liquid damage could be a problem, without a worry.

Resistant to temperature changes

With its rigid core layer, spc vinyl flooring is highly resistant to temperature changes, which is an important consideration for Australian homes and businesses. Additionally, it is able to cope with changes in humidity without warping, wearing, or displaying signs of damage.

Engineered luxury

Because the spc flooring is a vinyl board, there are a variety of looks, textures, and styles, so there is a flooring option for every taste! SPC flooring technology is getting more advanced everyday, so they look like oak planks and not like laminate!

Easy to install

SPC flooring is incredibly easy to install and is suited towards DIY builders as well. Featuring a click lock system, it has a simple tongue and groove installation process. Forget the messy glues or specialist tools, this floor is for everyone.

Comfort

Compared to cheaper vinyl surfaces, SPC feels sturdier thanks to its rigid core, and feels more natural underfoot due to the thickness of the planks. Some planks even come with an additional acoustic underlay that improves underfoot comfort even more, but it is also possible to install it over the subfloor also.

Acoustic

Due to its solid core layer the planks are quieter compared to traditional flooring options. Unlike cheaper planks which creak or let out a ‘hollow’ sound when stepped on.

Price

With a range of prices, there is an option for everyone. Depending on the brand and the features you can find an option at every price point.

Maintenance

All planks are designed to be easily cleaned with regular sweeping and mopping, so you can save yourself the hassle of expensive cleaning services.
